We’re sure you have impeccable taste when it comes to home decor, but one common mistake when selling a home is leaving personalized decor when staging the home. It’s important for prospective buyers to be able to envision your space as their future home. That can be difficult for them to do if you have a unique chandelier that doesn’t match their preferred aesthetic (yes, it’s awesome, but your buyers may not agree!). It’s best to re-paint and re-decorate if you have very personalized decor. Neutral colors are a safe bet! Make sure to also take down family photos and other things that make the house yours. Edit as much extra furnishings and decor as possible. You want to leave space for prospective buyers to mentally fill in the blanks with their own family and belongings! Listing your home at a fair price doesn’t necessarily mean that you will be settling for a lower selling price, because the more buyers you have interested, the more of them will be invested and begin to envision your house as their new home. These prospective buyers, after imagining their new lives in your home, will be willing to make higher offers in order to compete against other interested buyers. Another important factor in pricing relates to your “days on market”. The longer your home is on the market the lower it starts to rank on search apps like Realtor.com or Zillow.
